The most often used AOL chat rooms for playing Trivium are the  Pub Quiz rooms.  Trivium games are run here practically 24 hours a day by hosts on all kinds of trivia topics, including Movies, General Knowledge, Sport, History etc.  
Once you're in a room, you will see a host scrolling trivia questions to the room such as

··  What is the capital of Sweden?

type your answer as quickly as you can and send it to the room.
The Trivium host will then automatically pick up the first five correct answers given and award each player with points for their answers.  If you are one of the first to provide the correct answer, the Trivium host will notify you in the chat room by saying

··· YourScreenName, you were first [5 points] 

or whichever position your answer came in.
The scoring of Trivium is as follows:-
1st - 5 points
2nd - 3 points
3rd - 2 points
4th - 1 point
5th - 1 point

(Note that there are also occasional "double points questions" in a quiz where the answer is particularly difficult)

The game will continue with the rest of the quiz and players typing their answers as quickly as possible until the end of the round when the final scores are displayed.

If any player types an answer which would have been correct except for a spelling mistake, the host may decide to award that player "sympathy points" - a set of points (usually 3) to compensate the player for the error.

Different types of quizzes

Because hosting with Trivium allows you to write quizzes on any subject you can think of, some hosts have created differente genres of quiz.  
A "Links" quiz for example is  a series of questions such as

Open - ***** - Seeds

and the players have to determine the masked middle word that connects the two outer words.  The answer in this case that links the words would be 
Sesame
as in "Open Sesame" and "Sesame Seeds"  

Changing Quiz Rooms
There are almost always several Pub Quiz rooms open - if you don't like the quiz in the main room, follow the instructions below to access other rooms.

On the chat room window, click "Chat Options"
Then click "More Chat"

You will usually see several differently numbered Pub Quiz rooms to choose from.
Double click any of the rooms to join a different quiz.

Practice, Practice, Practice.
Finally....as with anything, the more you practice the better you become. When you first enter the rooms you might feel a little daunted at the more experienced players and how quickly they provide the right answers but persevere and you soon find yourself catching up to their speed.
